About Ide Performance Horses, Oceanwood Australian Shepherds, and the Owner...
"My Animal Science degree had a large equine emphasis that helped me build the
fundamentals of everything equine from health, conditioning, training, and the veterinary/medical side of the animal. For now, my program will remain small to
focus on putting quality bloodlines together to produce extraordinary performance
prospects. Quality and loving homes are expected for each and every foal produced
here at Ide Performance, with the possibility of excelling into their full potential in the performance ring.
Quality horses are meant to do more than one job, and look good doing it."
Story Behind Oceanwood Australian Shepherds...
The name of my kennel was inspired by my background and love of both the ocean and the woods. Growing up on the coastal waters of Corpus Christi, Texas, the water was home. My background is actually being from a hunting and fishing South Texas family owned and operated outfitter business, K&K Outfitters, so the outdoors was and still is a large part of my life.
I relocated in 2015 to Stephenville, Texas, which is where my program currently resides. Oceanwood is a small hobby show and companion breeding kennel for the Australian Shepherd breed.
My entire program was inspired by my first introduction to the breed working underneath a recognized show handler and Australian Shepherd breeder, whom led me to my first dog...
a female red tri Australian Shepherd named " Harley Tucker ".
Here's my backstory:
I have always had a love for dogs. Starting in 2015, I apprenticed under a canine obedience and specialty service dog trainer and was introduced to many working and herding breeds. Even though I had several preferred breeds, I respected the individual drives and different capabilities of these working dogs. I had hands on with service dogs, cancer sniffing dogs, PTSD and diabetic alert dogs, and detection canines. I found my best personal fit out of the breeds to be the Australian Shepherd, and soon after got my first.
This specific dog was not only my first Australian Shepherd, but the reason my passion started for the breed. Although a long story in itself, Harley was the best dog I have ever personally owned. As time goes on, I realized I will never be able to replace my "heart dog," and decided that I can always put my love and time into driving myself to insure that other people have the same kind of opportunity to have a well bred companion that they can love as dearly as I loved Harley. I love each and every dog I own, but there will never be another "Harley".
Harley was born on July 4th, 2016, and lost on July 4th, 2018, to an
idiopathic disease that was a protein losing enteropathy called
Lymphangiectasia. My battle with her being misdiagnosed as a puppy
by a veterinarian I had worked for, to putting thousands of dollars into
a dog that was internally too far gone, was lost.
Even with our short time together, she showed me what this breed
was truly capable of. My purpose and drive of this program is to
ensure I am producing the best dogs I possibly can that show the
true integrity and versatility of the Australian Shepherd breed within
their conformation, personality, and drive. My intentions are to produce
healthy, sound, good minded puppies to share with healthy and happy
homes. I can only hope that each and every puppy owner that is able
to take home a companion and/or show prospect from my program can
have a fraction of the relationship and love that I had for Harley.
That alone is why I do what I do...

"My passion has always been first and foremost the love of animals. It took me a while to realize I wanted to keep these animals solely my passion and not my job, as I have been a veterinary technician for over 10 + years working in both small and large animal hospitals. But this is why
health and soundness in my animals is a huge priority. In 2018, I graduated with an Animal Science degree from Tarleton State University." ~ Kirsten Ide
The team behind our programs...
The team behind Oceanwood Australian Shepherds and Ide Performance Horses is extensive.
From the people whom have supported my programs' start, to the people that have helped inspire the creation and continue to mentor me - I am blessed with the support and structure that these programs are founded on.
Below shows my fabulous local veterinarian Dr. Lauren Adams, whom medically and preventatively cares for both my show dogs and my horses.
If you are located in the Stephenville, Texas area, I HIGHLY recommend using Cornerstone Animal Hospital for your small animal veterinary needs. She focuses primarily on small animals.
