About Our Puppies...

Announcements:

We have older puppies actively looking for their forever homes and one adult male also looking for a placement.

If you think you are interested in a puppy from Oceanwood Aussies, let us know. We do not have puppies often! This is not a business, as Oceanwood is a small hobby breeding program fueled by a strong love for the breed and desire to produce puppies to the integrity of the breed standard. I encourage anyone with interest to message us to see potential timelines of any litters being planned. We sometimes will list planned litters at the bottom of this page. You can check here or our public Facebook page for updates.

We do interview our potential puppy owners to ensure they are going to a safe and happy home where their mental and physical well being is a priority. Puppies are evaluated at 6 - 8 weeks old for potential show careers. Potential owners will not be allowed to pick their puppies until after this evaluation is completed, and we do stress the importance of the puppy's temperament being an appropriate match to their potential homes.

We sometimes will have older puppies available if we had kept back a potential prospect that was to be later placed in a companion only home, but not often.

Registration Variables

Every puppy is sold on limited registration unless otherwise discussed and approved. If you are trying to get a full registration bitch or dog, expect to be paying $2,500 - $4,000+. Pricing depends on circumstance, if the bitch or dog is being used for show and/or under co-ownership, or if full rights and sole ownership is granted. All breeding prospects MUST have acceptable OFA results on both elbows and hips, have full detention and scissor bite, clean genetic panel, CEAR clear and all testing done BEFORE getting cleared to breed to an opposite of the same standards and the appropriate coloration. Once genetic testing etc. is passed, the bitch and/or dog can be signed off for you to receive full rights at that time (dependent on contract & agreement specifications).

No bitch nor dog that does not meet AKC breed standards and health clearances will remain intact per contract - regardless of amount paid. Failure to meet requirements will null and void full registration potential. ANY puppy's registration is done at the sole discretion of my decision, being the breeder.

Prices for our puppies varies depending on litter and will be $2,000 - $2,500 for companion (pet only/no breeding rights).

Deposits are $400.00 and non - refundable, but can be moved to a next litter.

Understand that I as the breeder have the right to evaluate my own litter and determine if a puppy is or isn't breeding quality throughout the "puppy - stage" evaluations. If a puppy is marked as companion only quality, said puppy will NOT be allowed to be sold with full rights, no exceptions.

Guardian Home

I sometimes offer "guardian home" discounts for pets that I want to keep in my breeding program but want them to have an outside family home - as I am keeping the number of canines in house small and manageable. These guardian home pets are NOT to be spayed or neutered unless they do not meet my breeding requirements (acceptable OFA results, health certifications and panel as of 2 years of age). This gives a family the opportunity to own a high quality puppy at a reduced price, in return allowing me to breed the puppy later on in life. As of now, I have only had 2 females I ever offered this for under contract. The owners stay in close touch with me and are within a 3 hour commute from where I reside, offer frequent updates and pictures, and have signed contracts with myself underneath Ide Performance. Guardian owners will not pay for health testing/breeding fees and will only be responsible for standard pet-owner fees (veterinary fees regarding preventatives, vaccinations, food, basic health care etc.). If a bitch is to be bred under guardian home, said bitch will come back to Ide Performance for the process of getting bred, hormone testing, pregnancy checks via ultrasound, and whelping. The bitch will remain with the guardian owner the majority of the pregnancy and return a week prior to the expected due date. I will be in full responsibility of puppies and insuring the bitch's health during and after parturition and weaning of the litter. Once litter is weaned and after bitch is veterinary checked and insured in good condition, she will be returned to the guardian owner. Guardian owners can visit their bitch at any time while she is with me!

We will not accept any deposits, regardless of contract, unless you have gone through the approval process and we have a bitch confirmed bred.

EVERY dog, whether adult or puppy, will have our kennel name at the beginning of their registered name. We have worked hard for this name and there will be NO exceptions to changing this stipulation We do have high standards for our puppies! Not every breeder believes in vaccinations, deworming, internal heartworm & parasite prevention, and flea & tick prevention... BUT I DO! Being a veterinary technician since 2014, I do stress the importance in keeping your companion fully updated on the necessary preventatives.

If you are wanting to purchase a puppy and not have any interaction with the breeder after pick up, I am NOT THE BREEDER FOR YOU! I want a relationship with my puppy owners and I encourage owners to reach out to me if anything arises... I do understand that sometimes life gets tough and people get BUSY!

I have a Facebook page specifically for my puppy owners to keep up with pictures and have the ability to reach out to one another to see litter mates and other puppies produced from Oceanwood Australian Shepherds called "Oceanwood Aussie Family", as well as my public Facebook page "Ide Performance Horses and Oceanwood Australian Shepherds".

You can never post too many pictures and/or videos! Sometimes raising a puppy is a team effort!

Feeding Your Puppy

We are firm believers in using Purina Pro Plan as your pet's ideal feed.

I have worked underneath several veterinarians with doctorate studies in animal nutrition whom have seen great production, development, and healthy maintenance within both performance and companion dogs and horses on Purina feeds. I myself have seen great results with Purina products and use it for both my equine and canine program.

My puppies stay on Purina Pro Plan Salmon and my adults are on Purina Pro Plan 30/20.

Our dogs are on various supplements depending on the particular dog, coat quality and color, and specific needs. We do recommend both Platinum Performance Canine supplements as well as Royal Jelly supplements, fish oils, dried fish skin, kelp... Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions on feeding or what your dog might be lacking.

***NOT EVERY FEED WORKS FOR EVERY DOG! I highly recommend getting a veterinarian with a strong nutrition interest that truly understands 'what goes INTO your pet will change the quality of their skin, coat, energy, and overall health & comfort'.***

Raising Puppies, Enrichment,                       and Socialization

Health & Guarantee

Our puppies are whelped and raised at my home. I do apply "puppy culture" to each and every puppy to allow them to be exposed to different sounds and feels. I have a select few people that join me in helping with socialization and to get the puppies used to different people and being continuously handled. I put my puppies through the "Super Dog Program" to increase neurological stimulation and get puppies to be confident and build their stimuli reactions.

Puppies are introduced to a "litter pan" around 3 weeks of age when they start walking to allow them to potty in a separate controlled area away from their sleeping and play areas.

At 3 to 4 weeks, puppies will be offered Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken canned mash mixed with milk formula

in-between nursing times. Once they start having their puppy teeth poke through their gums, they are offered soaked Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken kibble to complete the weaning process. I do let the dam naturally wean the puppies off of her milk.

Puppies are exposed to being outside around 5 weeks of age during supervised play times.

I do not allow visitors when puppies are this young to avoid any possible outside diseases being brought in. Puppies go to new homes at 8 weeks of age and will NOT go sooner!

Included with Puppy

Your puppy will come with a food starter bag of our puppy good, a Oceanwood Aussie tote bag with some goodies, and their vaccination & deworming record of what was given and when.

Many breeders microchip their puppies before they go to new owners. I DO NOT MICROCHIP PUPPIES! Why? I have seen too many microchips travel underneath the skin as puppies get older. If this happens and a dog gets loose, some vets/techs do not thoroughly check the entire dog when scanning for a potential microchip number. I have seen radiographs of microchips moved as far as the pet's metacarpals! I personally recommend microchipping your puppy when they stop growing (in between the shoulder blades subcutaneously) and/or at the same time the pet gets spayed and/or neutered.

Grooming

Australian Shepherds involve a considerable amount of maintenance and grooming. If you are wanting a non-shedding, or "easily" groomed dog that requires little to no attention, this breed is NOT for you. I do require all puppy owners to understand this breed can NOT be shaved and the coat does require personal and professional maintenance!

Many commercial groomers do not recognize how to properly groom double coated breeds. I am not saying this out of spite but out of personal experiences with seeing many double coated dogs shaved because it's "easier" than maintaining the coat how it suppose to be taken care of. Having several commercial groomers mess up on my first Australian Shepherd is the reason why I learned how to groom them myself!

I do groom all of my own dogs and offer grooming to outside canines through IP Stock Dog Grooming, so I can answer any product and tool questions you might have.

All puppy tails are docked and dewclaws removed at 3 days old per the breed standard. They are dewormed at 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 9 weeks with pyrantel pomoate. They are given their first DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus) at 8 weeks old. They are also vet checked prior to leaving. Each and every puppy comes with a 26 month health guarantee that states each puppy will be free of any genetic disease (this does not include things that are environmental or idiopathic).

I will send home a recommendation vaccination schedule to help show you what vaccinations are recommended at what age. Discuss a plan with your veterinarian to best suite what vaccinations apply to you and your pet's lifestyle and exposure.

My personal dogs are on Credelio flea and tick preventative and Interceptor Plus (heartworm and intestinal parasite prevention).

KNOW YOUR GENETIC PANEL of your puppy upon bringing them home! Australian Shepherds have medication sensitivity dependent on if they are a carrier of the MDR1 (multi drug resistant 1) gene. I religiously stay away from Ivermectin products because of this, but will tell you if your puppy is a carrier or not before you take them home. There are many sedation and preventative drugs that this gene reacts too! Ask me if you have questions in regards to this!

ALL breeding pairs, both dam and sire, will have OFA hips and elbows completed as well as a Genetic Panel completed.

IF we ever breed a pair where one of the parents does NOT have OFA or a genetic panel done, it is only because the breeder of that particular dog has known that pedigree's genetics for 5+ generations and have watched those dogs develop to see if they have had any congenital problems or not.

You will know and have access to the information of your puppy's parents!

Lifetime Support

16-5-8-8CM-Australian-Shepherd-Dog-Car-S

I am adamant about staying in touch with puppy owners and being available for any questions day or night. I have social media groups to stay in touch, will give owners my personal contact information and have no problem answering text messages or phone calls. I want to be able to see these puppies grow up and thrive with their new lives and families. I have been an emergency veterinarian technician for a LONG time - I do NOT mind you calling me in the middle of the night! I will always return your call and/or message if I do not answer right away!

Breed Standard and Registration

If you are wanting to know more about the Australian Shepherd breed, there's no better place to go than the American Kennel Club and the Australian Shepherd Club of America websites.

https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/australian-shepherd/

https://www.asca.org/conformation/breed-standard/

I strive to have my Australian Shepherds dual registered, but not all of my canines are both AKC & ASCA. The registrations are listed underneath each canine's information.

If you are unfamiliar with the breed or are unsure if this breed is right for you, feel free to message me with any questions or concerns you might have.

Even if I do not have any current puppies and you are needing help finding a puppy from a reputable breeder, you are more than welcome to reach out to me. I will help in any way that I can. Committing to a new companion can be scary and there are a LOT of scammers out there that are selling unhealthy puppies or use other breeder's pictures when they do not own the dogs themselves. I have heard too many horror stories and know how intimating the puppy picking process can be!
